[From Translation to Experience Design]

On September 18 at 3 p.m., a special lecture was held in Room 703 of Building 301 under the theme of “From Translation to Experience Design,” featuring Haeun Kim, a product language manager and localization specialist.

지난 9월 18일 (금) 오후 3시, 301관 703호에서 프로덕트 랭귀지 매니저이자 로컬라이제이션 전문가인 김하은 연사를 초청해 ‘From Translation to Experience Design’을 주제로 특별 강연을 열었다.

About 40 second-year students from AITP participated in the lecture, organized by Professor Jun-ho Lee of the Korean-English program.

한·영 전공 이준호 교수님의 주관으로 개최된 이번 강연에는 중앙대학교 전문통번역학과 2학년생 약 40명이 참여했다.

Kim started her career as a linguist before working in various organizations, including LSPs, and has gained about 20 years of experience in the localization field. Currently, she is responsible for language management as a product language manager at Netflix.

김하은 연사는 링귀스트로 경력을 시작해 LSP를 비롯한 다양한 조직에서 약 20년간 로컬라이제이션 분야의 경험을 쌓았으며, 현재는 넷플릭스에서 프로덕트 랭귀지 매니저로서 랭귀지 매니지먼트를 맡고 있다.

During the lecture, many topics were covered, including recent developments and the overall environment of the translation and localization industry, as well as cultural considerations for good translation.

이번 강연에서는 번역 및 로컬라이제이션 업계의 최신 상황과 전반적인 환경, 그리고 좋은 번역을 위한 문화적 고려 요소 등이 다채롭게 소개되었다.

In particular, Kim helped students better understand the topics by using real translation cases from dramas and audiovisual content.

특히, 김하은 연사는 실제 드라마와 영상물 번역 사례를 활용해 학생들의 이해를 도왔다.

Kim emphasized the importance of quickly developing specialized expertise to keep up with a rapidly changing society, while recommending that students also consider expanding beyond translation and interpreting. In addition, she underlined the need for flexible thinking about career paths, given that advances in AI technology have lowered barriers to acquiring domain expertise.

김하은 연사는 급변하는 현대사회에 맞춰 빠르게 전문성(specialty) 함양의 중요성을 강조하는 한편, 통합적 분야로의 확장을 함께 고려해야 한다고 조언했다. 아울러, AI 기술의 발전으로 전문 분야(domain expertise) 진입장벽이 낮아지는 만큼, 커리어에 대한 유연한 사고가 필요함을 강조했다.

The lecture was followed by a Q&A session dealing with know-how for grasping context as an interpreter or translator in the AI era, as well as the importance of microlearning.

강연 후 이어지는 질의응답에서는 AI 시대 통번역사로서의 맥락 파악 노하우와, 마이크로 러닝의 중요성에 대한 깊이 있는 논의가 이뤄졌다.

Meanwhile, second-year AITP students from the Korean-English, Korean-Chinese, and Korean-Russian programs provided simultaneous interpretation in their respective languages.
한편 이번 특강에서는 전문통번역학과 한·영, 한·중, 한·러 2학년 재학생들이 전공 언어로 동시통역을 지원했다.
